How to Get Ready In 10 Minutes (Or Less!)

[ 0 ] May 26, 2012 |

It’s the summertime, which in our ideal world means endless hours, sleeping in till noon, relaxing the days away and having adventures at every other corner. But after just one month into holidays, you’ve probably realized that just isn’t the case. Sure, full-time school might be over, but that doesn’t mean you’re still not sleeping through your alarm clock and rushing out of the door to get to where you need to be.

And it’s in times like these that getting ready at a super slow speed can sometimes work to your disadvantage. When you’re making your friends or date wait for you to finish up, or are constantly running late for work or school, you know you’ve got a problem.

So when you’ve only got five minutes to spare, you have to make the most of those precious minutes and use your time wisely.

Getting ready fast has somehow become easier for me over the years. I used to take 30 minutes or more to be “outside of the house ready” but I learned over the years that I was merely wasting time that I didn’t really have. Instead, I learned to prioritize my time and get ready more efficiently – whether I was heading out to a party, going on a date, just going for coffee with a friend or merely going to work.

So what’s my secret?

Well, let me tell you! Here are my top 3 tips for beautifying yourself in ten minutes:

Scenario #1: School

The nice thing about being in a summer class is the fact that most people are so on holiday-mode, they don’t really care about what others are wearing. And neither should you! If you’ve only got ten minutes to leave for class, don’t stress too much about how you look. Dash out of bed and splash cold water on your face, which will awaken your skin. While you’re brushing your teeth, grab a dress from your closet and whatever accessories you feel go with it. Once you’re done brushing your teeth, you will have had your entire outfit planned.

If your hair looks less than perfect, braid your hair to the side. It’ll give you an effortlessly cool look, and you didn’t even have to spend half an hour either. Easy huh?

Scenario #2: Work

We all want to look good for work, whether you have a uniform or not. If you get to choose your own clothes for your job, make sure you plan your outfit the night before – just in case you sleep in and don’t have time to plan your outfit and get dressed in ten minutes the next morning. When you wake up, blast some feel good music that’ll get you pumped for the day ahead. In the five minutes afterwards, brush your teeth and wash your face. When you’re in a rush, apply minimal makeup for work. Unless you work at a restaurant, chances are you don’t have to be model-perfect, so don’t fret if you don’t look magazine gorgeous one day. Your boss only cares how well you do your job, not how long you spent in front of the mirror! Throw your hair up in a bun or a sleek ponytail, and you’re ready to go!

Scenario #3: Date/Party

Going on a date is nerve-wracking, especially if it’s your first date or if you’re attending a party where you’re sure your crush will be. Which is why girls spend an hour or more freaking out about what outfit they should wear right down to what colour they should paint their nails. But if you have only ten minutes to get ready after taking longer in the shower than you had meant to (fantasizing about the evening, of course), don’t worry because you can still look fantastic!

The best beauty finds for moments like these are products that do more than one thing – such as tinted moisturizers (which will you give you a glowing complexion but will still help keep you skin soft) and eyelash curlers (which will not only make your lashes look luscious and long, but will also give you that boost you need to appear more awake than you may really be). We all know men don’t like a whole lot of makeup, so the more natural you look, the better. Skip the eye shadow or foundation, and opt for just a couple of swipes of mascara instead, which will help define your eyes. Chances are, you’ve got your outfit planned already, but if not, check out some ideas here. If your hair is still wet, quickly dry it until it is less than damp and braid it loosely. By the time you arrive at your destination, your hair will be drier and you can undo your braids. Run your hands through your hair and – voila! – you’ll have glorious waves that’ll catch the eye of that certain someone.
